Most, if not all networked devices have a factory-assigned Media Access Control (MAC) address that serves as a unique identifier. Since this address is hardcoded, it cannot be changed at the hardware level.

However, The MAC address can be faked at the software level, thus protecting your device's actual address from being exposed to public and/or adversarial networks. This is what is known as MAC Spoofing.

The desktop versions of Windscribe allow you to take advantage of this method with a simple toggle. You can find the MAC Spoofing setting in Preferences > Connection (plug icon), as illustrated in the screenshot below:

There are also a few options you can use once you've enabled this feature:

The Interface setting in the MAC spoofing tool lets you choose which network interface you want to spoof the MAC address for. This is typically the Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter on your device. Select the appropriate interface you are using to spoof the MAC address.

If you'd like to manually refresh your spoofed MAC address, you can hit the recycle arrow.

You can also enable the Auto-Rotate MAC setting. When enabled, this tool will automatically change your MAC address periodically while you're connected to the VPN. This enhances your privacy by ensuring your MAC address is not static.
